One of the aims of this website is to search the web for the very best websites, databases, and other resources that can help you in your research. To do that, there is a specific criteria we follow when examining these resources.
Anne Arundel County Public Schools lays out a series of criteria for the selection of online or digital content. Among the criteria are the following:
These criteria can essentially be divided into three primary categories:
Does the site meet basic technical and legal standards? – Is it COMAR and copyright compliant? Will it work effectively on our current computer systems and current bandwidth levels?
Is the site of high quality? – Is the information on the site accurate, objective and authentic? Does it reflect a diverse population? Is there a strong connection to our curriculum?
Is the site user friendly? – Is it engaging, easy to read, and easy to navigate? Is it intuitive and user friendly? Is there a built in support and help component?
Does it have tools to assist students: High marks would go to sites that have tools such as a citation generator, varied reading levels, and easy links to other relevant information.
When we examine resources, we use the following Rating Scale:
5 – Excellent. Is accurate, current, intuitively designed, useful in multiple fields and meets all technical and legal standards. Must have site.
4 – Very Good. May lack one of the qualities of an excellent site, but overall provides excellent information in an engaging way and meets all technical and legal standards. Good addition to a collection of databases.
3- Mediocre. May have one or two strong characteristics, but is actively missing others. Meets minimal technical and legal standards. Worth including if it meets specific needs.
2 – Poor. Poorly designed site with limited value. May include outdated information and poor navigation. Is confusing to use. May not meet technical or legal standards.
1 - Worthless. Site has no value. Information is inaccurate or irrelevant. Site is out of date, overly complex and poorly designed. Doesn’t meet minimum technical and legal standards. Should not include.
